Один полюс: да, страна — наше все, мы пойдем и в тюрьму, и на каторгу, и на смерть ради того, что мы себе представляем своей страной (Навальный, Яшин, Кара-Мурза).
Другой полюс: нет, страна не наша, но наша задача сохранить ее культуру (что бы это ни значило), а потому, с разной степенью успешности будем защищать эту культуру от этой страны (Томас Манн — успешно, Иван Бунин — нет).
Кому как.

а по первому есть романтики, а есть реалисты (циники). Романтики верят в будущее россии, а циники нет, и они правы, потому что знают цену обитателям - гниль. Ломаться за них бессмысленно.
Такие как кириенко, мизулина, крашенинников, задорнов и пр. сделали правильный выбор.

For Furtwängler, there were always two Germanys. ‘Hitler's propaganda has increasingly silenced the real Germany,’ he wrote in his notebook in 1945. ‘Of anyone who condemns Germany today [and by inference we can assume he also meant those who stayed], one can only say that he does not know Germany. Since for twelve years Germany has been silent.’ Mann was to counter, when the same line was taken in their correspondence two years later: ‘There are not two Germanys, a good and a bad one, but only one, whose best turned into evil through devilish cunning.’ But Furtwängler clung to this belief in the ‘two Germanys,’ a belief he had already worked out for himself before the end of the war. In 1944, he had declared in his notebook: ‘I am one of the most convincing proofs that the real Germany is alive and will remain alive. The will to live and work in me is, however critically I view myself, that of a completely unbroken nation.’

Also a conductor. Very brilliant. Young. Von der Null called him 'The Miracle von Karajan'. Furtwängler was outraged and they say he had von der Null conscripted into the army. The same thing happened to another critic. True or not, it's not such a bad idea. Critics give you bad reviews, you have them sent to the Russian front. (Chuckks.) But if you really want to get Furtwängler, ask him about Herbert von Karajan.
